Digging for amber

I could write a small section about the area - But I'd rather link to this review of the area, written by Bruce Cornet, Ph.D: Upper Cretaceous facie, Fossil Plants, Amber, Insects and Dinosaur Bones, Sareville, New Jersey. This is a very thorough work - I would highly recommend reading it .

Below are some pictures of what the area looked like before it was made into a building site. Back then dug Kevin Chomicki for the New Jersey amber.
"The bottom of the pit that I hand dug was at 6- 10 feet below the surface, and I have just touched the top of the amber- bearing lignite layer."
